Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Frantz Massenat scored 20 points to push the
Drexel Dragons to a 55-47 victory over the Rice Owls in the seventh place game
of the DirecTV Classic at Anaheim Convention Center Arena.
Massenat went 7-of-10 from the floor and made all three of his attempts from
beyond the arc to help Drexel (2-4) end the tournament on a positive note.
Damion Lee added 16 points and six rebounds while Daryl McCoy grabbed a team-
best total of seven rebounds.
Rice (1-5) was led by Tamir Jackson, who finished with 20 points after making
eight of his 18 field goal attempts. Julian DeBose added 12 points and nine
rebounds before fouling out.
Lee drained a three-pointer for the first basket of the game and the Dragons
never looked back. Drexel shot 66.7 percent from the floor including a 4-of-6
connection rate from three-point range to take a 30-20 lead into the
intermission. Massenat scored 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting in the opening half
while Lee netted eight as the duo equaled the opposition's point total. The
Owls fell behind after making only 8-of-24 field goal attempts in the first 20
minutes of action.
Rice cut into the deficit after the break by limiting Drexel to 36.8 percent
shooting from the floor. The Dragons managed to stay in front by converting
10-of-13 at the charity stripe in the second half.
Drexel held a 33-23 edge in the rebounding battle to overcome its 14
turnovers.
