Fresno, CA (Sports Network) - Peter Pappageorge tallied 23 points to lead
the Long Beach State 49ers to a 69-61 win over the Fresno State Bulldogs in a
non-conference bout at the Save Mart Center.
Pappageorge was 6-of-10 from the field including 4-of-8 from deep while also
making all seven free-throw attempts for the 49ers (2-3). Mike Caffey also got
into the mix as he scored 13 points and dished out six assists. James Ennis
added 11 points and nine rebounds while Dan Jennings chipped in 10 points and
seven boards.
Allen Huddleston scored 13 points to lead Fresno State (3-2), which also got
10 points from Tyler Johnson. Kevin Foster only scored five points but pulled
down a game-high 11 rebounds while Jerry Brown contributed nine points and
eight rebounds.
Long Beach led 37-34 at halftime after the team shot 48.1 percent from the
field and knocked down 6-of-11 attempts from three-point range. Pappageorge
broke a 34-34 tie by making a three-pointer with 42 seconds left in the first
half. The Bulldogs stayed close by scoring 12 second chance points in the
opening half.
Fresno State was unable to come back after the break as it shot only 35.7
percent from the field and made only 5-of-10 at the charity stripe in the
second half.
Fresno State was able to convert only 6-of-22 attempts from three-point range
in the contest. The 49ers managed to pick up the victory despite trailing
37-34 in the rebounding battle.
