New York, NY (Sports Network) - Sporting Kansas City's Jimmy Nielsen was named
the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year on Wednesday after putting together one of the
best seasons for a goalkeeper in recent MLS history.
The Dane's third season in MLS saw him lead the league in shutouts and wins
while he held the longest shutout streak of the season as well, which spanned
414 minutes.
Nielsen was one of two goalkeepers to allow less than one goal per game (0.79)
this season while posting one of the top save percentages in the league at
74.2 percent.
Finishing a distant second in the voting was Chivas USA's Dan Kennedy, while
Michael Gspurning of Seattle Sounders FC was third.
