Brookings, SD (Sports Network) - Jordan Dykstra led four South Dakota State
Jackrabbits in double figures as they defeated the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks,
78-63, in Summit League action at Frost Arena.
Dykstra shot 7-of-11 and finished with 17 points for SDSU (6-2, 1-0 Summit).
Tony Fiegen netted 16 points while Nate Wolters and Brayden Carlson each
scored 13. Fiegen also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
John Karhoff scored a team-high 16 points for the Mavericks (2-7, 0-2) before
fouling out. Justin Simmons shot just 3-of-10 from the floor but finished with
10 points. C.J. Carter also scored 10 off the bench. Matt Hagerbaumer grabbed
11 rebounds in the contest.
SDSU took its first lead less than two minutes into the game on a jumper by
Chad White and built the lead to as many as 31 during the first half. The
hosts went into the locker room leading 54-28. The Mavericks shot 48 percent
from the field in the first half but trailed by such a large margin because of
12 turnovers. They also allowed the Jackrabbits to shoot 56 percent from the
floor.
Nebraska Omaha got as close as 13 late in the second half but never closed the
gap any further. SDSU won despite turning the ball over 22 times.
After dropping two of their first three games, the Jackrabbits have now won
five consecutive contests.
