Fayetteville, AK (Sports Network) - Marshawn Powell dropped a career-high 33
points as the Arkansas Razorbacks pulled ahead late and defeated the Oklahoma
Sooners, 81-78, at Bud Walton Arena.
Powell hit 11-of-17 shots from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free throw stripe
to lead the Razorbacks (4-3) to the win. BJ Young contributed 10 points and
eight assists while Mardracus Wade scored 10.
Romero Osby finished with a season-high 22 points off the bench for Oklahoma
(6-2), which won three straight contests prior to tonight. Amath M'Baye added
14 points and Steven Pledger scored 12 points on 4-of-7 from behind the arc.
The home team shot 55.0 percent from the floor in the first half and led 41-38
at intermission. Oklahoma controlled the boards but struggled shooting from
outside, knocking down just 1-of-8 shots from behind the arc while Arkansas
made 5-of-12 3-point attempts.
Oklahoma shot 64.0 percent from the field in the second half while they kept
the score close. The Sooners took their first lead with 20 seconds remaining
on a Pledger 3-pointer, but Young came right back down the court seconds
later and hit a runner to give Arkansas a 79-78 advantage. Osby had an
opportunity to give OU the lead back, but his jumper was off the mark with
eight seconds remaining, and the Razorbacks secured the rebound and held on
for the victory.
Arkansas leads the all-time series, 15-12.
