Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - FC Dallas announced Thursday that it has signed
goalkeeper Raul Fernandez of the Peruvian national team. Per team and league
policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Raul Fernandez is a very athletic goalkeeper who has gained a lot of
experience playing internationally with Peru," said FC Dallas head coach
Schellas Hyndman. "He has a strong command of the box and will compete for the
starting position with FC Dallas. He is an extremely motivated individual. I
expect he will embrace this opportunity."
Fernandez came up through the youth system of Peruvian club Universitario de
Deportes and made his professional debut in July of 2005. After going on to
make 143 appearances for the club, the 27-year-old made the switch to Nice of
the French first division where he managed to make two appearances.
