Northridge, CA (Sports Network) - Paolo Mancasola tallied 18 points and six
assists as the UC Davis Aggies held off the Cal State Northridge Matadors,
74-71, in a Big West Conference showdown at The Matadome.
Corey Hawkins added 17 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals for
UC Davis (5-10, 1-3 Big West), which has won two of three. J.T. Adenrele and
Ryan Sypkens chipped in 13 points apiece, while Adenrele also grabbed a team-
high nine boards.
For Northridge (9-8, 0-5), Stephen Maxwell logged a double-double with 18
points and 11 rebounds, while Josh Greene and Allan Guei netted 14 and 10,
respectively. The Matadors are in the midst of a six-game losing streak.
UC Davis outshot Northridge from the field in the first half, 42.9 percent to
31.2 percent, as it took a 30-27 lead at intermission.
The Matadors used a 9-0 run early in the second half to take a 41-35 lead, but
the Aggies eventually climbed back to retake the advantage, 57-56, on a Josh
Ritchart 3-pointer with 6:50 left in the game. Northridge would keep the game
close down the stretch, but UC Davis never surrendered its lead, and a
Mancasola trey in the final minute would help seal its fate.
UC Davis was able to overcome a game-high 23 turnovers by finishing 27-of-53
from the field (.509).
