Grand Forks, ND (Sports Network) - Behind a career-high 25 points from Aaron
Anderson and another 25 from Troy Huff, North Dakota claimed an 85-76 win over
the Portland State Vikings in Big Sky Conference play at the Sioux Center.
Jamal Webb added 16 points as North Dakota (7-10, 4-4 Big Sky) claimed its
third straight conference victory. UND shot a school-record 21-of-21 at the
foul line.
Michael Harthun scored 19 points and Aaron Moore added 18 for the Vikings
(5-10, 3-5), who lost on the road for the eighth time in as many tries this
season. Lateef McMullan and Gary Winston rounded out the double-digit scorers
with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Portland State grabbed a seven-point lead at the 13:02 mark of the first half
following back-to-back jumpers by Moore. However, UND answered with
consecutive 3-pointers from Anderson and Josh Schuler as part of an 8-0 run to
regain the lead. Both teams went on to shoot an identical 14-of-26 from the
floor in the opening frame, although it was UND claiming a 40-38 halftime
lead.
UND stretched its cushion to 10 four minutes into the second half, and the
hosts protected their lead by knocking down 5-of-6 threes and going 12-of-12
at the charity stripe over the final 20 minutes.
In addition to their perfect free-throw shooting, the Green and White shot a
healthy 53 percent from the field and 50 percent from the perimeter for the
game.
