Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Dwight Powell tallied 17 points and nine
rebounds to lead the Stanford Cardinal to a 69-59 victory over the California
Golden Bears in a Pac-12 Conference bout at Maples Pavilion.
Powell shot just 4-of-12 from floor but made all nine of his attempts from the
free-throw line for Stanford (11-7, 2-3 Pac-12), which has won two of its last
three contests. Chasson Randle scored 15 points, John Gage added 14 points,
and Josh Huestis recorded nine points and 12 boards.
For Cal (10-7, 2-3), Allen Crabbe and David Kravish netted 14 points apiece,
while Justin Cobbs logged 13 points and six assists. Kravish also ripped down
nine rebounds for the Bears, who have lost four of six.
Stanford got out to a 37-29 lead at the half. Although it shot a modest 42.3
percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, it drained 5-of-9 from 3-
point range.
Cal started the second half on the right foot, opening up the 13-6 run to
bring its deficit to just one, 43-42, with 13:19 to play. The Bears would get
no closer however, as the Cardinal answered with a seven straight points as
they kept a comfortable advantage for the rest of the game.
The difference was made at the foul line, were Stanford shot 25-of-31. Cal was
just 11-of-15 from the charity stripe.
