Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Jordan Baker netted 21 points to lead the
Pepperdine Waves to a narrow 60-57 victory over the Loyola Marymount Lions in
a West Coast Conference tilt at Gersten Pavilion.
Lorne Jackson added 13 points for Pepperdine (10-9, 2-4 WCC), which snapped a
three-game losing skid. Stacy Davis led the Waves with 10 rebounds and four
assists.
Anthony Ireland struggled from the field, shooting just 4-of-18, but he
finished with a team-high 14 points, while Ayodeji Egbeyemi added 11 points
for Loyola (8-12, 1-6), which dropped its fourth straight contest. Alex
Osborne and Ashley Hamilton each chipped in 10 points.
Baker erupted for 17 points in the opening 20 minutes as Pepperdine led 37-33
at intermission. The Waves knocked down 4-of-7 from behind the arc, while
Loyola went just 1-of-11 from 3-point range.
Neither team found much success from the field in the second half, as Loyola
shot just 31.8 percent while Pepperdine failed to make a field goal in the
final 5:06 of action. However, Anthony Ireland missed the potential game-tying
triple with six seconds remaining and the Waves survived.
Pepperdine improved to 92-65 all-time against Loyola.
