San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Greg Gainey scored 17 points and Kevin Butler
posted a double-double as the Texas-Arlington Mavericks bested the San Jose
State Spartans, 66-47, in a Western Athletic Conference matchup at the Event
Center.
Butler had 13 points and 10 rebounds off the bench and Shaquille White-Miller
added 12 points for Texas-Arlington (10-8, 5-4 WAC) which has won consecutive
games after losing two straight.
Chris Cunningham recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for
San Jose State (9-11, 3-6) which has lost five straight.
The Mavericks dominated in the first half and led 38-19 at the break.
Texas-Arlington shot 48 percent from the floor including 5-of-11 from beyond
the arc while San Jose State shot a woeful 16.7 percent with misses on all 12
shots from 3-point distance.
The Spartans improved slightly in the second half but at 28.6 percent shooting
they were unable to rally from the halftime deficit as they trailed by as many
as 25 points in the final 20 minutes.
Texas-Arlington had a 24-14 edge on points in the paint and a slim 41-39 edge
in rebounds.
