Davis, CA (Sports Network) - J.T. Adenrele led all five starters in double
figures with 20 points as the UC Davis Aggies topped the UC Riverside
Highlanders, 79-72, in a Big West Conference battle at the Pavilion.
Ryan Sypkens finished with 17 points, Josh Ritchart added 13 points, Tyler
Les had 12 points and seven assists and Paolo Mancasola chipped in 10
points for UC Davis (8-11, 4-4 Big West) which has won three of its last
four.
Josh Fox had a game-high 22 points and came a rebound shy of a double-double
for UC Riverside (5-15, 2-6). Chris Harriel added 18 points before fouling
out and Robert Smith scored 12 points and was also a rebound short of a
double-double. The Highlanders have lost six of their last seven.
At the half UC Davis led 41-30 after shooting 62.5 percent from the field
and 7-of-11 from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes. UC Riverside also
shot well hitting 47.8 percent including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc.
In the second half the Highlanders improved to 53.1 percent shooting but
it wasn't enough to overcome the Aggies who shot an even 50 percent and had
a 15-5 edge from the free-throw line in the last 20 minutes.
UC Davis assisted on 19 of its 25 field goals and nailed 10-of-19 shots
from beyond the arc.
