Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Khalif Wyatt netted 25 points to lead the
Temple Owls to an 89-88 win over the Charlotte 49ers in an Atlantic 10 clash
at the Liacouras Center.
Wyatt, the leading scorer in the conference entering tonight's action, shot 7-
of-12 from the floor and 10-of-13 from the line for Temple (15-7, 4-4 A-10).
Jake O'Brien added 22 points off the bench while Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson and
Dalton Pepper each scored 11 points.
Chris Braswell paced Charlotte (17-5, 5-3) with 23 points while Pierria Henry
finished with 14 points and a career-high nine assists. Denzel Ingram had 13
points on 5-of-6 from the field as Darion Clark and Terrence Williams dropped
11 points apiece.
O'Brien was perfect for Temple in the first half, hitting 5-of-5 from the
field including two triples for 14 points. Charlotte shot 57.7 percent and
battled back from down 13 to tie the score, 41-41, heading into the locker
rooms.
Both teams shot well in the second half but it was Temple which jumped out to
a 70-62 advantage midway through the period after consecutive layups by
Hollis-Jefferson. The Owls extended the lead to 12 late in the contest before
Charlotte came clawing back behind clutch baskets from Williams and Clark. An
Ingram triple with 28 seconds remaining cut the Owls' lead to 88-85. After a
Temple turnover, the 49ers had a good look at the basket but Henry's 3-point
try was blocked by T.J. DiLeo. Wyatt converted one of two from the line at the
other end with eight seconds left to give the Owls a four-point advantage,
proving Henry's last second triple to be obsolete.
Charlotte lost despite outrebounding Temple, 29-25, as the Owls improved to
8-5 all-time against the 49ers.
