Boone, NC (Sports Network) - Nathan Healy tallied his sixth double-double of
the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Appalachian State
Mountaineers fended off the Furman Paladins, 72-66, in Southern Conference
action at the Holmes Center.
Michael Obacha, Jay Canty, and Mike Neal each scored 14 points as well for ASU
(11-13, 7-6 SoCon), which has won three of four. Neal also dished out six
assists for the hosts.
For Furman (6-17, 3-9), Stephen Croone poured in a career-high 20 points on 5-
of-10 from the field and 10-of-13 from the foul line. Larry Wideman netted 11
points, while Kendrec Ferrara and Bobby Austin had 10 points apiece for the
Paladins, who have dropped four contests in a row.
ASU led by as many as 18 in the first half, but Furman battled back to make
its deficit just six, 34-28, heading into intermission.
The Paladins fought hard down the stretch, keeping the game within single-
digits for the majority of the second half. They even got to within one,
64-63, with 1:31 to play, but ASU never trailed after the break as it held on
for the six-point win.
The Mountaineers shot 47.1 percent from the field on the evening, and they
were also effective from the foul line at 76 percent (19-of-25).
