Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Dylon Cormier sank a pair of free throws with
11 seconds left to lift the Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds over the Tennessee
State Tigers for a 69-67 come from behind victory in a non-conference bout at
the Gentry Center as part of the BracketBuster event.
Cormier finished with 20 points for Loyola (20-9) at it picked up its 20th win
of the season to record consecutive 20 win seasons for the first time in the
program's Division I history. Erik Etherly made a huge contribution to the win
with 26 points and eight rebounds while R.J. Williams dealt out five assists.
Patrick Miller led TSU (16-12) with 17 points. Kellen Thornton chimed in with
15 points, Jordan Cyphers added 11 and Robert Covington just missed a double-
double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Both sides made 17 field goals in the opening 20 minutes, but the Tigers
knocked down 5-of-9 from beyond the arc and converted all 10 of their attempts
at the free-throw line to take a 49-38 lead into halftime.
The Greyhounds were trailing, 65-54, with 8:16 remaining in regulation. Loyola
produced a thrilling late comeback effort by scoring 13 unanswered points over
the span of the 4:37. The run put the visitors ahead by two points, but Miller
tied it up again by going 1-of-2 at the charity stripe on back-to-back
possessions. TSU was unable to produce any more points before Cormier's go-
ahead free shots. Covington missed a potentially game-tying jumper as time
expired. Loyola scored 15 points off of turnovers in the second half to power
its rally.
Although it lost, TSU held a 35-30 edge in the rebounding battle.
