Clinton, SC (Sports Network) - Khalid Mutakabbir poured in 25 points as the
Presbyterian Blue Hose managed to hang on for a 68-65 victory over The Citadel
Bulldogs in a BracketBuster matchup at the Templeton Center.
Eric Washington added 11 points and four assists for the Blue Hose (8-21) as
they picked up their second win in three outings.
Mike Groselle finished with 15 points and nine rebounds for The Citadel
(7-20), which also received 14 points and nine boards from P.J. Horgan.
Marshall Harris III and Matt Van Scyoc scored 12 and 10 points, respectively,
as the Bulldogs suffered a setback for the fifth time in six games.
Although the Bulldogs took an early seven-point lead, PC took a narrow, 30-28
lead into the intermission after it outscored the visitors, 26-12, in the
paint in the first half.
The Citadel was able to tie the score at 55 with 7:55 left in regulation, but
Mutakabbir put the Blue Hose back in front as he completed a traditional
three-point play on his squad's next possession. PC held onto the lead the
rest of the way. The Bulldogs had a chance in the closing seconds trailing by
three points, but they did not get to attempt a game-tying triple as Harris
III turned the ball over just before the buzzer.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs held a 30-23 edge in the rebounding battle and
outscored the hosts, 21-14, at the charity stripe. However, The Citadel's
strong performance on the glass was not enough to overcome its 19 turnovers.
