St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Doug McDermott went 8-of-10 from the floor
and 6-of-7 from beyond the arc to score 25 points as the top-seeded Creighton
Bluejays coasted to a 64-43 victory over the Indiana State Sycamores in the
semifinal round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
McDermott also grabbed nine rebounds for Creighton (25-7), which also received
10 points from Gregory Echenique. The Bluejays will defend their conference
tournament title from 2012 against the winner of the Illinois State and
Wichita State matchup in the championship on Sunday.
Manny Arop led Indiana State (18-13) with 13 points.
Creighton made five of its first six shots to take an early 14-2 lead and
never looked back. The Bluejays connected on 8-of-11 from 3-point range and
limited Indiana State to 25 percent shooting from the floor in the first half
to take a comfortable, 41-18, lead into the intermission.
The Sycamores could not locate their shooting touch after halftime as they
went 7-of-25 from the field. Creighton converted all eight of its free-throw
attempts in the final 20 minutes to arrive at the 21-point decision.
