Morgantown, WV (Sports Network) - Will Clyburn had a game-high 27 points and
10 rebounds, as the Iowa State Cyclones wrapped up their Big 12 Conference
regular-season schedule with an 83-74 win over the West Virginia Mountaineers
at WVU Coliseum.
Korie Lucious added 21 points behind a 5-of-8 effort from 3-point range for
the Cyclones (21-10, 11-7 Big 12), who also topped 13th-ranked Oklahoma State
by double digits earlier this week to enhance their NCAA Tournament resume.
Georges Niang and Chris Babb chipped in with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
The Mountaineers (13-18, 6-12) suffered their sixth straight loss and will
enter the Big 12 Tournament as either the No. 7 or 8 seed. Jabarie Hinds paced
five double-figure scorers for WVU with 19 points off the bench.
The Cyclones' eight first-half 3-pointers matched the Mountaineers' field-goal
total for the period, as Iowa State claimed a commanding, 44-20 halftime lead.
Iowa State stretched its lead to as many as 27 with just under 16 minutes to
play in regulation. The Mountaineers made things interesting with a 13-0 run,
and they later cut the deficit to four on a crowd-igniting dunk by Terry
Henderson with 48 seconds remaining. However, the Cyclones came up with a
couple of late defensive stops to end the threat.
Iowa State, the top 3-point shooting team in the country, made 14-of-23 (.609)
from beyond the arc for the game.
