The prize at the 80th running of the Ohio derby at Thistledown was triple what it was last year, meaning today's winner took home $300,000.
Florida-based East Hall took home the prize, pulling ahead of Jessica's Star to win the race.
East Hall competed against 10 other horses including Almost Famous who was ridden by a 3-time Kentucky Derby winning jockey.
"It was an exciting day at ThistleDown," said Patrick Ellsworth, racing secretary at ThistleDown. "A large crowd braved a little bit of rain to pack the apron and enjoy our signature race, which had its largest and most impressive field in 15 years."
ThistleDown reopened on April 9, 2013 as a racino following an $89 million renovation that added a gaming floor with more than 1,000 VLT gaming machines. Included in the renovation was a $1 million upgrade to the wagering floor for races.
The racing season at Thistledown will continue until November 16.
