STVM's Booker named national defensive player of year

The night before playing in his final football game as a high school student-athlete in the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Ohio's reigning AP Mr. Football Dante Booker Jr. was named this year's American Family Insurance Defensive Player of the Year.

The St. Vincent-St. Mary High School product will join fellow Northeast Ohio prep gridiron stars Erick Smith, Marshon Lattimore and Marcelys Jones as members of the East squad in today's prestigious national all-star contest at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The trio from Glenville High School helped the Tarblooders advance to the Division II state title game.

Lattimore was a finalist to be awarded the U.S. Army American Bowl's player of the year, but was beat out by Charlotte Catholic running back Elijah Hood.
