LeBron James hopes Hillary Clinton creates better future for children

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Cavaliers small forward LeBron James believes in Hillary Clinton.

Over the weekend, the multi-time NBA Most Valuable Player and reigning Finals MVP announced in an essay that he is supporting Clinton, the Democratic nominee, in her race against Republican candidate Donald Trump for the office of President of the United States of America.

“I did it because that’s what me and my family believe in,” James said after a recent Cavaliers training-camp practice. “It’s what we want, and we’re hopeful it happens.

“I didn’t need the debate. When I’m ready to speak on something, I do it. You can go back to the letter and see why I endorsed Hillary.”

James believes Clinton is the candidate to support because to him, she offers the best chance to carry on the community activism that was set forth by current President, Barack Obama.

“Obviously, in ’08, I was big on Barack just for multiple reasons, most of all, his vision, and also, having a change because I feel like he had the mindset to make that happen,” James recalled. “I got out and spoke about it, and I’m doing the same thing today. It’s hard to say in my lifetime because I wasn’t always able to vote, and I’m not a political guy. I’m not into politics, but I know what I stand by. Today, I know what it’s about.

“From day one, I just always liked his vision, especially from a community standpoint, and I believe Hillary can continue that legacy that Barack has done over the last eight years. Obviously, you guys know how important my community service is in my hometown, and that’s a main point for me.”

Also, James believes Clinton has what it takes to lead the younger generation to prosperity by letting children know of their importance to society and giving them the support necessary to reach their full potential and become successful leaders in the future.

“For me, the main thing is going back into the communities and giving our world a better future,” James said. “Our kids are our future. I believe Barack started it. I believe Hillary’s going to continue it. I’m all about community.

“It starts from the ground up, and if we can continue to get back into the communities and do the things we need to do to help these kids understand that they are our future and know that they have a helping hand, it makes this world a better place.”
