Kyrie Irving leaves game after being hit in the face

Kyrie Irving is being monitored for a concussion after being hit in the face with 10:10 remaining in the first quarter of Friday's game between the Boston Celtics and Charlotte Hornets.

Irving took a hard shot from teammate Aron Baynes as Baynes was defending Kemba Walker, who was driving to the basket.

Celtics trainers covered Irving's face with a towel, as he was bleeding from the nose, and he left the floor.

Marcus Smart replaced Irving at point guard.

Without Irving, the Celtics shot 23% in the first quarter and were 0-of-7 from three-point range.

Boston was already without Gordon Hayward, who broke his ankle five minutes into the season opener, and Al Horford, who is in the concussion protocol.
