Cleveland to host NCAA D-I men's basketball tournament in 2020

NCAA Basketball tournament returning to CLE in 2020

CLEVELAND - March Madness is coming to Cleveland, but not until 2020.

The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission announced Tuesday that the first and second rounds of the Division I men's NCAA basketball tournament will be held at Quicken Loans Arena March 20-22 in 2020. According to the commission, the event is expected to generate $8 million in economic revenue for the city.

The commission also announced seven other NCAA championship events coming to Cleveland.

Those championships include:

2019:

  • D-II men's wrestling (Wolstein Center)
  • Fencing (Wolstein Center)
  • Women's bowling (Game of Wickliffe)
  • D-III outdoor track and field (SPIRE Institute) 

2020:

  • D-II swimming and diving (SPIRE Institute)
  • D-III outdoor track and field (SPIRE Institute) 

2021:

  • D-III outdoor track and field (SPIRE Institute)

The eight events are expected to have a collective economic impact totaling $15.6 million, according to the commission.
