It's a name that came as a surprise for many fans when Roger Goodell announced the Browns pick in the #8 slot of the 2014 NFL Draft.
Fans at Rivals in Middleburg Heights reacted loudly when the Oklahoma State cornerback's name was announced. So too did the hundreds of fans gathered for a watch party at the Cleveland Convention Center.
The Browns went into the night with the #4 pick overall. They traded that pick to Buffalo in exchange for first and fourth round picks in 2015. The Browns moved down to #9 after the Buffalo trade then swapped with Minnesota to move up to eight to take Gilbert.
Many, including the draft crew on ESPN, had been anticipating the Browns had moved up a spot to take Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel.
But as of the mid-point of the first round, 'Johnny Football' remains on the board.
