Johnny Manziel mania has taken over the city, but lost in all of the excitement is the story of Josh Gordon, waiting to see if he'll be banned for a year after reports of another failed drug test.
But are Browns fans really concerned about that? No one talks about it now.
Example -- I talked to a fan the other day, and his reaction to the Josh Gordon situation was: "That will work itself out, but no worries, we have Johnny Football now." Small sample size, just one fan's take, but has Johnny Manziel already climbed to the status of savior when it comes to the Browns franchise?
Manziel is on the cover of the new Sports Illustrated. The headline says "Johnny Better Be Good." The pressure and the stakes are already through the roof of the Terminal Tower for the QB labeled as the "back-up."
If Manziel mania hadn't taken over, Josh Gordon would still be the major headline. The loss of Gordon could impact this franchise for years. He's the best deep threat, the most dangerous weapon, and you just don't replace him. He's there to help your rookie quarterback get comfortable.
Jimmy Haslam has looked the other way, saying Gordon has a bright future with the Browns. Haslam still trusts him, even though Gordon could be suspended a second time.
Is Johnny Manziel the Band-Aid to the problems? The cure to the troubles past and present? One fan I talked to seems to think so.
