Westlake's Margot Shumway and her partner Sarah Trowbridge finished in sixth place in the finals of the women's double sculls event in the rowing competition.
Kenston graduate Justin Rodhe fouled on all three attempts and did not qualify to advance in the shot put competition. Although from Northeast Ohio, Rodhe is competing for Team Canada.
Elyria's Tianna Madison has moved into the semi-finals of the women's 100m. She finished in a time of 10.97 seconds. She's currently in 5th place heading into the semis on Saturday.
Ashland's AG Kruger finished in 25th place overall in the qualifying for the men's hammer throw. The top 12 competitors advance to the final. His teammate, Kibwe Johnson, will see competition this weekend. He's in fifth place following the qualifying round. His throw of 77.17 meters is a seasonal best.
Rau'shee Warren lost in his first bout in the flyweight division of the boxing competition to Nordine Oubaali of France. The loss came in the round of 16 but Warren had a bye in the earlier round. He's 0-3 in Olympic competition for his career and had been favored to contend for a medal.
Hyleas Fountain is currently in 5th place after completing half of the events in the womens' heptathlon.
