Interest grows for US World Cup team

CLEVELAND -- Team USA will have their first match in the World Cup knockout round Tuesday afternoon, and fan interest continues to grow.

The US match against Portugal on Sunday, June 22 was the most watched World Cup match ever for ESPN with more than 18 million viewers tuning in, according to Nielsen.

Fans enamored with World Cup soccer have also taken to smaller screens to show their passion. Twitter reported the Brazil/Chile shootout set a new record with almost 389,000 tweets in the minute following Brazil's win.

Viewer projections for Tuesday's match between the US and Belgium are ranging between 13 and 16 million.

Belgium comes in undefeated in this year's World Cup and 4-2 winners over the US the last time the teams played. That game was here in Cleveland at FirstEnergy Stadium in March of 2013.

The US did defeat Belgium in the inaugural World Cup of 1930.
