CLEVELAND -- A one-time Nurse's Aide of the Year ata county-funded nursing home admitted in court that sheassaulteda 78-year-old resident who suffers from Alzheimer's disease.

Maria Karban, 26, faces up to six months in jail after pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault before Common Pleas Court Judge Maureen Clancy. Karban was scheduled to go on trial for felony assault in January.

Shealso agreed to immediately surrender her state-tested nurse's aide license and to never seek another job in nursing or patient care for the rest of her life.

Karban was caught on videotape abusing patient Esther Piskor by a hidden camera that was installed by Piskor's son in her room at the Prentiss Center nursing home operated by MetroHealth.

The video showed Karban spraying Piskor in the face with a body perfume.

Piskor has been relocated to another nursing home and is suing MetroHealth over the abuse.

A second nurse's aide faces more than 10 years in prison after she admitted to repeatedly abusing Piskor.

Virgen Caraballo pleaded guilty to felony charges of patient abuse after the hidden camera caughtCaraballo violently tossing Piskor onto a bed as well as other abuse.

Caraballo also agreed to surrender her state-tested nurse's aide license, meaning she will not be allowed to work in any facility that receives Medicaid.
