AKRON -- On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Sara Lioi denied a motion by former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora to suppress some of the evidence that is to be offered when his trial starts Jan. 4.

Dimora is set to go to trial next week with co-defendant Michael Gabor. The motion asked that items seized during the July 28, 2008 raid by FBI and IRS agents of Dimora's office in the county administartion building and his Independence home be excluded.

Dimora's attorneys, Andrea and William Whitaker, also wanted the FBI wiretaps on Dimora's phones excluded.

The trial is expected to take eight to 10 weeks at least and former Cuyahoga County Auditor Frank Russo, a close friend and ally of Dimora's, is expected to testify against him.
