SAGAMORE HILLS -- Residents of a Sagamore Hills condo complex managed to escape after an early morning fire.

Investigators say the fire started in a second floor condo at the Juniper Hill complex on Canyon View Drive.

Emergency dispatcher Kelly Whapham says the fire began about an hour after she got home.

Whapham helped safely evacuate neighbors. She has spent the last 20 years working as a firefighter and paramedic for Macedonia and now also dispatches for Macedonia police.

The roof of the complex over some of the condos is gone. About four to six units are estimated to have fire damage. Many others likely have smoke damage.

A firefighter fell battling the flames, but he's doing okay, reports said. One woman lost her cat in the fire.

Sagamore Hills police and Boston Heights fire were both at the scene.
