STRONGSVILLE -- A sold-out benefit dinner washeld Thursday night for the Strongsville fifth grader who survived a deadly shooting at the Brooklyn Cracker Barrel.

The Kayla Allen Benefit Fund was created to help defray healthcare costs and improve quality of life for Kayla Allen.

Kayla is the lone survivor of deadly April 12 shooting rampage where her father, Kevin Allen, shot and killed her sister Kerriand mother Kate insidethe restaurant.

Kevin Allendied when he was shot by police as he left the restaurant and refused to surrender.

Kayla's condition was downgraded to criticalmidday Thursday at MetroHealth Medical Center.

"We are thankful to everyone," family friend and former neighbor Mark Karr said of the 200 people who attended the benefit.

"People who know Kayla and those who never met her. Her story has touched their hearts and we are grateful."

"She has a tough way to go and needs our support," Karr said, as he arrived at the benefit following a visit to Kayla at MetroHealth Medical Center

The benefit fund hosted an all-you-can-eat dinner Thursday night at the Cleats restaurant in Strongsville.

A $20 ticket is good for all-you-can-eat salad, appetizers, side dishes and entrees. For every ticket purchased, $10 goes to the Kayla Allen Benefit Fund.

The evening featured various raffles for a wide range of interests.

All 150 tickets are already sold out, but organizers say the community is still welcome to attend if there is room left in the restaurant.

Raffle tickets will be sold at the dinner. Raffle tickets may be purchased even if not attending the dinner. Raffle entrants do not need to be present for the raffle drawing to win.
