MEXICO CITY -- The U.S. Marshals Service says one of its 15 most-wanted fugitives has been caught in the Mexican resort city of Cancun.

The service says fugitive Vincent Legrend Walters was captured Friday and is being held on a U.S. extradition request.

Walters faces murder charges in the 1988 death of a woman kidnapped in California as part of a drug deal, as well as weapons and drug charges.

Walters was apparently living under an assumed name and working at the Cancun airport at the time of his arrest. He had been on the run for 24 years.

Walters will be transported to Mexico City for extradition proceedings. Mexican authorities were not immediately available to indicate how he got a job at the airport.
