CHARDON -- The Geauga County Democrats had not put a candidate on the Nov. 6 ballot this year to challenge longtime, 24-yearincumbent Republican Geauga County Prosecutor David Joyce.

But withJoyce withdrawing from the Nov. 6 prosecutor's race last week in order to replace 14th District Congressman Steve LaTourette on the seven-county district ballots, the Geauga County Democratic Party has now put forward a candidate in the prosecutor's race.

According to the Geauga County Board of Elections and the Geauga County Democratic Party website, the Geauga Democratic Party is running attorney Jeff Fanger as the Democratic Party's candidatefor prosecutor on the Nov. 6 ballot.

On Sunday night, the Geauga County Republican Party picked Jim Flaiz, of South Russell, to replace Joyce as the Republican candidate for prosecutor on the Nov. 6 ballot. Flaiz is the president of the Geauga County Bar Association.

Also Sunday night, the Geauga GOP selected Dr. Robert S. Coleman Jr, of Newbury, to replace Dr. John Urbancic on the Nov. 6 ballot for Geauga County coroner.

Urbancic withdrew his name from the ballot on Aug. 8, citing personal reasons. The Democrats already had former Geauga County Coroner Dr. Robert Evans on the ballot as the candidate for coroner.

Incumbent Geauga County Coroner Dr. Kevin Chartrand is not seeking re-election. Chartrand defeated Evans in a previous election.

Fanger is managing member of the law offices of Fanger & Associates LLC, with offices in downtown Cleveland and Highland Heights.
