WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Department of Defense has announced thatan Oberlinsoldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom died from his wounds.

Sgt. Louis R. Torres, 23, of Oberlin,died Aug. 22, in San Antonio, Texas, of wounds suffered when he encountered an enemy improvised explosive device Aug. 6 in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Torres was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
