CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns plan to recognize late owner, Art Modell, at this Sunday's season opener against the Eagles.

Browns spokesman, Neil Gulkis, says the team will pay "appropriate recognition" to Modell. Plans are still being finalized.

The team issued a one-line statement on Thursday extendingsympathy to the Modell family: "The Cleveland Browns would like to extend their deepest condolences to the entire Modell family."

Modell died Sept. 6 at the age of 87 in a Baltimore hospital. He owned the Browns from 1961-1995. He then moved the franchise to Baltimore.

Many fans in Cleveland have not forgiven or forgotten Modell's move that left the city without a football team for several seasons.
