CLEVELAND -- The mystery behind one of America's Most Wanted fugitiveshas been solved, according to U.S. Marshals.

U.S. Marshals revealed at a morning news conference that the realname of the man known up until now only as 'Bobby Thompson' is actually John Donald Cody, 65, a Harvard-trained lawyer.

He has been wanted on unrelated fraud charges since 1987. His true identity was uncovered through 1969 military fingerprints that didn't make it into the national crime system.

He is jailed in Cuyahoga County awaiting trial on charges of defrauding donors in 41 states, including Ohio,of up to $100 million through a bogus Florida-based veterans charity.

He was arrested in Portland, Ore., in May and has pleaded not guilty. His attorney, Joseph Patituce, says Ohio has a weak case against his client.
