ROMULUS, Mich. -- Suspended Detroit police Ralph Godbee says he can't discuss the sex scandal that led Mayor Dave Bing to remove him.
Godbee landed at Detroit Metropolitan Airport on Wednesday evening after attending a police conference. The 44-year-old chief told assembled reporters that there's "an open investigation" and he "can't make any comment" before talking with his lawyers. He also isn't saying if he'll resign.
Bing suspended Godbee on Tuesday after a 37-year-old internal affairs officer claimed that she and her married boss engaged in a sexual relationship for about a year.
The mayor hired Godbee two years ago after firing his predecessor, in part because of similar charges involving a subordinate. The comments are Godbee's first since the suspension.
