CLEVELAND -- Halloween is still several weeks away, but five elephants at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo got their celebration of the haunted holiday started on Thursday morning.

The zoo's five African elephants were treated with a pumpkin snack to preview the upcoming 23rd annual Boo at the Zoo event.

Willy, the zoo's 12,000-pound elephant was given a massive 384-pound pumpkin to play with and scarf down. The four female elephants were given smaller pumpkins.

Every Halloween season, Boo at the Zoo transforms the park into an after-dark experience themed around the spooky season with decorations, lights, music and activities.

Boo at the Zoo runs for eight nights on Oct. 18-21, 25-28 from 6-9 p.m.

Boo at the Zoo tickets are on sale for $8 per person. Children ages 2 and younger are free, while zoo members receive $1 off the ticket price.
