A recently discovered asteroid,2012 TC4, will pass close to Earth early Friday morning at 12:57 a.m., ET.

The speedy visitor will scream across across the night sky only 59,000 miles from the surface. Because of its size (45 to 90 feetacross),the asteroid will appear as a very faint, but fast moving star.

Astronomers say the best chance of actually seeing the asteroid will be with small telescopes.

2012 TC4 was discovered a little more than a week ago by the Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid Response System or PANSTARRS.

Small asteroids like these routinely fly through the neighborhood, and many have come closer. In June 2011 asteroid 2011 MD passed only 7,500 miles away with no ill effects.

Tonight's passage of 2012 TC4does not pose any threat to Earth says astronomers.
