Some people in southern Illinois are reporting something strange hovering in the skies in recent days -- and nobody knows what it is.

At the Hecker Country Store, it's been the hot topic of discussion.

What they've seen has them all mystified: A large, bright light with four lights around it rotating.

Some have said it's a single, bright solid-colored light while others have said it's red, green, yellow and pink just rotating around.

Witnesses tell Fox 2 it was much larger than a planet, but it definitely was not the moon.

Two witnesses who live in Freeburg, Illinois say they first saw the unidentified lights in early October.

"It looked like the sun that had shrunken down to like the size of soccer ball and that's what it looked like to me," one of them explains.

They didn't call police because "they're not going to believe me either."

According to the Monroe County Independent, police responded to a report of the phenomenon on Tuesday.

It reports they saw the lights, patrolled and set up a viewing area. With no present danger, they returned to their patrols.

Scott Air Force Base says it was not aware of any aircraft in the area at the time.
