Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Maurice Kemp and Robert Sampson each posted double-doubles for East Carolina as the Pirates pulled out a 62-53 win over the Georgia State Panthers at GSU Sports Arena.
Kemp scored 16 points and brought in 11 rebounds and Sampson had 12 points and 16 rebounds for East Carolina (5-0) which was playing in its first road game of the season. Shammar Bowden added 10 points off the bench.
Manny Atkins scored 15 points to go along with eight rebounds for Georgia State (3-3). Devonta White scored 13 points and dished out five assists.
Both team's shot below 35.0 percent from the field in the first half, but East Carolina hit 6-of-16 attempts from beyond the arc to earn a 31-20 lead at the break. Georgia State missed all eight of its shots from 3-point range.
The Pirates led by double digits for most of the second half and shot 43.5 percent from the field in the final twenty minutes.
East Carolina dominated on the inside with a 47-26 edge in rebounds to go along with six blocked shots.
