WILLOUGHBY -- A Willoughby Police pursuit that went into Cleveland ended when the minivan they were chasing crashed into a pole early Monday morning.

Police are still trying to locate the driver.

About 1:20 a.m., police made atraffic stop on Maplegrove Road in Willoughby. The minivan came to a stop in the parking lot of the Motel 6.

The investigating officer made contact with thedriver, who provided him with false identification. As the officer began to question the identity of the driver, the driverdrove further into the Motel 6 parking lot.

The officer followed the minivan into the parking lot and located it behind the motel. Police asked the driver to get out but then thedriverdrove forward, striking the front end of the officer's cruiser.

The driver then backed up and drove around the officer, ultimately leaving the parking lot.

The original officer, along with an additional Willoughby Police cruiser, then pursued the vehicle onto Interstate90 westbound from state Route91.

The minivan continued westbound until he tried to exit at the U.S. 20 exit ramp.

The minivan went off the side of the road and then attempted to travel eastbound in the westbound lanes.

One cruiser was usedto block the path of the minivan so that it would not travel against traffic on the interstate.

That manuever caused the minivan to strike the cruiser and turn around, now goingwestbound in the westbound lanes.

The minivanexited at the East 260th ramp in Euclid, thenre-entered the interstate westbound.

Then the minivan exited at East 185th Street, left the roadway and struck a utility pole, disabling the vehicle.

The driver jumped from the minivan and ran off.

He has not been found.
