CLEVELAND -- For the first time in nearly 20 years, the Cleveland chapter of the NAACP has a new president.

Reverend Hilton Smith took the oath of office at the Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church, where he is also associate pastor.

The oath was administered by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Solomon Oliver.

Smith succeeds longtime former president George Forbes, who resigned in April.

Heoutlined his priorities while in office, listing "fair housing -- certainly education is at the top of our agenda. Economic development, job development, upward mobility of minorities and women in the corporate structure, and in the public sector as well."

Smith was elected in November and will serve a two-year term.
