When the mercury drops to the bottom of the thermometer, there are preventative measures you need to take to make sure your home stays warm.

Now is the time when many people make a desperate call to the furnace repair companies. More often than not, the cause of the problem stems from a dirty air filter.

Central Heating & Air Conditioning in Richmond Heights offers these reminders:

  • Check your furnace air filter and change, if necessary. Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away from any heat sources, such as furnaces, space heaters, fireplaces, stoves and water heaters.
  • Do not use extension cords with spaces heaters. The cord can overheat and start combustible materials on fire. They should be unplugged when not it use and if you leave your home. Keep any space heaters at least 3 feet from furniture and bedding. Do not operate when you are sleeping.
  • Make sure your registers are not blocked. Both supply registers. Warm air blows out of them and your return registers.
