Des Moines, IA (Sports Network) - Ben Simons paced four teammates in double figures with 16 points as the Drake Bulldogs dismissed the Green Bay Phoenix, 71-54, in a BracketBusters contest at the Knapp Center.
Seth VanDeest tallied a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for Drake (13-15), while Chris Hines scored 14 points on 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Kori Babineaux chipped in 10 points and seven boards off the bench for the Bulldogs, who have won two in a row on the heels of a four-game losing streak.
Keifer Sykes and Brennan Cougill each netted 12 points for Green Bay (15-13), as it snapped a three-game winning streak.
A Simons' 3-pointer in the waning seconds of the first half gave Drake a 37-35 advantage heading into intermission. It shot 51.9 percent from the field in the frame, while Green Bay wasn't far behind at 46.7 percent.
The Bulldogs pulled away after the break thanks mostly to their stout defensive pressure, holding the Phoenix to a lowly 6-of-29 from the field (.207) in the second half.
Drake shot 9-of-21 from 3-point range on the evening, while Green Bay was only 4-of-20 from beyond the arc.
