Mobile, AL (Sports Network) - Mychal Ammons shot 8-of-13 from the field for 18 points as the South Alabama Jaguars brought down the North Texas Mean Green, 69-57, in a Sun Belt Conference showdown at the Mitchell Center.
Javier Carter tallied 10 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks for South Alabama (16-10, 13-5 Sun Belt), while Augustine Rubit scored just nine points on 3- of-13 from the field but hauled in 15 boards. Antoine Allen and Wendell Wright netted 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Jaguars, who have won five of six.
Alzee Williams poured in 15 points for North Texas (11-19, 6-13), which had won its previous two games. Tony Mitchell logged his eighth double-double of the season for the visitors with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
South Alabama outshot North Texas from the field in the first half, 43.3 percent to 31.4 percent, as it took a 30-24 lead into intermission.
The Jaguars' field goal efficiency regressed to only 37.5 percent in the second half, but they never trailed and extended their advantage to as many as 20.
South Alabama shot 15-of-16 from the foul line, while North Texas was just 10- of-21 from the stripe.
