CLEVELAND -- We've seen them churn up cheers for our favorite sports teams, but local mascots are about to spur up support in a special Harvest for Hunger campaign.
On Thursday, March 28, Slider (Indians), Chomps (Browns), Moondog and Sir CC (Cavs), Sully (Lake Erie Monsters) and Skipper (Lake County Captains) will be on hand to bag groceries for shoppers who donate $5 or $10 via the Check Out Hunger option at Giant Eagle on 4343 Royalton Road in Broadview Heights.
The Check Out Hunger campaign allows shoppers to give $1, $5 or $10 increments at checkout by adding the donation to their bill.
The group of mascots will be staged at the end of checkout lines from 4-5 p.m. and will be notified by Giant Eagle cashiers when they are needed to bag groceries.
Last year, Check out Hunger, an option available at multiple stores throughout Northeast Ohio, raised $1.3 million for the Harvest for Hunger campaign.
