SOLON -- A chef from Solon is set to compete for a national title after winning the American Culinary Federation's Northeast Region Chef of the Year.

Eddie Tancredi, corporate chef at Cleveland Restaurant Group, won the ACF award during the 2013 regional conference in Verona, N.Y. last week.

"It is a humbling experience to represent the ACF Northeast Region for Chef of the Year," Tancredi says. "I want to thank ACF Cleveland Chapter for all their support."

During the competition, chefs had 15 minutes to set up, one hour to fabricate and cook four portions of their dish, 10 minutes to plate the food and 15 minutes to clean up. A panel of judges then selected the winner based on cooking skills, taste and professionalism.

The main element of his winning dish was a pan-roasted veal loin.

Tancredi will compete for the national prize during the 2013 ACF National Convention, which takes place in Las Vegas this July 21-25.

"I look forward to the opportunity to compete in Vegas and 'going the distance' by bringing home the winning dish," Tancredi says.

Tancredi, who is an ACF-certified executive chef, joined the Cleveland Restaurant Group earlier this year as a corporate chef. Prior to that, he was a sous chef at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., chef de cuisine at Rosendales in Columbus, Ohio and head banquet chef at New Albany Country County in New Albany, Ohio.

He has competed in numerous ACF-sanctioned events and was a member of ACF Culinary National Team USA, which won silver medals for hot-food and cold-food displays at the 2012 Internationale Kochkunst Ausstellung, Erfurt, Germany. In 2010, he competed with ACF Culinary National Team USA at Expogast-Villeroy & Boch Culinary World Cup, Luxembourg, where the team placed third overall out of 26 countries.
