LORAIN -- Lorain fire investigators blame a six-year-old for setting a younger sibling on fire.
Last Sunday,Nasire King, 4,was fast asleep under his blanket when a sibling playing with a cigarette lighter set the bedding on fire.
King is clinging to life at MetroHealth Medical Center with second- and third-degree burns over 90 percent of his body.
Seven children, all under ten years old, their mother and grandmother were inside the West 19th Street home. The others escaped unharmed
The Lorain Fire Department is seeing a dramatic rise in the number of fires started by children nationwide.
Recent statistics indicate that over a five-year period, 800 fires were set by children between four and six years old.
They've killed 110 people and destroyed $300 million in property.
"It's extremely sad and that sibling is going to have a real hard time having to deal with that the rest of their life," Assistant Fire Chief Roy Cochran said.
The blaze was ruled accidental. No charges have been filed in connection with this case.
