LAKE COUNTY -- A woman was shot while attempting to take a loaded gun away from her husband early Saturday morning.
Deputies received a 911 phone call but the caller hung up. That's when they decided to call back only to hear someone was shot.
The shooting happened on Perry Park Road in Perry Township.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office tells Channel 3 that the 50-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was in her room when her intoxicated husband came in with a loaded gun.
The woman tried getting the gun away from the 53-year-old husband but the weapon went off, shooting the woman in the thigh.
She was taken to Tripoint Medical Center where she was flown by Life Flight to MetroHealth Medical Center. The wife did have surgery and her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
The husband was charged with using weapons while intoxicated. The charge is a first degree misdemeanor and more charges are pending.
Deputies are investigating if this shooting was accidental or intentional.
